BMI = Body Mass Index
40% of men and 50% of all women are unhappy with their weight. For many years doctors had health care professionals have calculated your “ideal weight” based on height and weight tables. These were published by insurance companies, but were not associated with health risks related to your scale. Throw away your height weight charts..they just make you unhappy NOT healthy!
Instead use BMI. The National Institute of Health (NIH) released the first federal guidelines for evaluating obesity in adults in June of 1998. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.
BMI is NOT the single factor in determining your health related risks from overweight or obesity; however it is an excellent starting point for you.
